A Novel Reflection-Type Polarization Convertor Design Using Connected Orthogonal Tightly Coupled Dipole Arrays

Herein, we design a polarization convertor (PC) using two orthogonally polarized, tightly coupled dipole arrays (TCDAs) connected in cascade, of which one is used for the reception incident waves and other their transmission. The operation PC elucidated via cascading equivalent circuit unit cells polarized TCDAs. critical role vertical metal strips (VMSs) with regard to wide-angle insensitivity discussed. Moreover, it found that undesirable common mode occurs under oblique incidence its frequency related size-to-height ratio cell. To demonstrate performance proposed PC, 40 × array structure fabricated measured Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) arch method. simulated bandwidth range 2.06 14.54 GHz (7.06:1) conversion (PCR) ≥ 80%, 1.68 14.51 (8.64:1) PCR 72% at an angle 10°. At 40°, bandwidths are 2.15 14.13 (6.57:1) 2.43 13.87 (5.71:1) respectively.
